The Midland Rockets speed team competed in the first Great Lakes Speed League Meet of the season, sanctioned by USARS (USA Roller Sports). The meet was held on October 2, 2016 at Bell’s Skating Rink in New Haven, Indiana. The Rockets, who are just coming off an exciting 2015-2016 season where several Rockets skaters were declared National Champions, competed against 130 skaters from over the Great Lakes Region (to include: Illinois, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Indiana). Jillian Dowland- 1st Overall Primary Girls Standard
Mason Dowland- 4th Overall Boys Elementary Standard
Billy Wenzel-1st Overall Elementary Boys Novice, 2nd Overall Elementary Boys Standard
Noah Selvaraj-1st Overall Elementary Boys Standard
Ryder Ahrens-1st Overall Juvenile Boys Novice
Gaby Guentensberger-1st Overall Freshmen Girls Novice, 3rd Overall Freshman Girls Standard
Carrie Selvaraj- 2nd Overall Master’s Lady Standard
Ross Carson-1st Overall Grand Esquire Men
Local skaters Max Ryan (Team Wolverine) placed 2nd in Men’s Sophomore, 3rd in Men’s Junior Standard Division. And Chad Costley (Team Illini) placed 2nd in Senior Men Standard Division.
